The basics of setting up Crime Catcher to email you captured images.
Step 1 - Set Crime Catcher up for Basic Monitoring
Set Crime Catcher up to monitor the area you want to secure. Instructions/help on this can be found in the Basic Tutorial.
Step 2 - Setup the Email Options
Got into the options and head down to Internet Settings/Email. In here we need to check the option to send Email, and fill in your details for your SMTP server. Your SMTP server will probably be something relating to your ISP (AOL, Freeserve, BT etc.). You will need to look on your ISP webpage / letter they have sent you, or in your email program settings. We'll have a quick look below on how to check this in Outlook.
Select Email Accounts in the menu:
Select to Edit an account:
Select the account to edit (any should do as they will probably use the same SMTP server):
Now the value you see in the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) field is the value you want. Place this value as the SMTP server in Crime Catcher. You probably will not need a username and password, have a look in More Setting to see if one is specified.
You should now have successfully setup the Email options and have something looking similar to below:
Step 3 - Configure your Internet Connection
If you are on broadband (always ON connection) please continue to step 4. Now we have setup the Email options we need to ensure that the computer can connect to the Internet to send these emails when motion is detected. To do this go into the options and into Internet Settings / Dial Up Settings.
Select your connection that you wish to use. In my case it's Pipex. You will need to have your Username and Password saved with your connection. You can not edit these from Crime Catcher. Select if you want connection and disconnection to happen automatically. This is recommended allowing Crime Catcher to connect to the Internet when images need to be sent and disconnect when images have been sent.
Step 4 - Start Detection
Click the first icon on the toolbar. Detection will now start. Create some motion somehow and hopefully images will be sent. You can check this in a number of ways. The best way (aids you in locating problems) is to open up the Crime Catcher Internet Component. You will find this in your system tray as a Crime Catcher with a mail icon:
If emails have been sent the Emails sent number will increase. If there has been any problems they will be displayed. If it doesn't help you, email us the problem description and we'll try to help.
If all is good, your inbox will have a mail like below:
