Standard Edition
The basics of setting up Crime Catcher to monitor an area.
Step 1 - Loading Crime Catcher
Hopefully on loading Crime Catcher it should default to your installed Webcam. If you have multiple webcams you can select which one you would like in the options. We shall cover that in another tutorial. If all is well and you see your webcam image on the screen, move to the next step.
Step 2- Start Detection
Click the first item on the toolbar to Start Motion Detection. You will now see a countdown (default of 5 seconds but changeable in the options) which will allow you to leave the area that is being monitored. Click Start Now for the impatient!
Crime Catcher is now monitoring. You will hear a dog bark if motion is detected and text in the status bar will show that an image has been saved. The number represents how many images have been saved since Crime Catcher was loaded the session. If you hear a continuos bark (quite possible) it is because the settings are too sensitive. Let go and change them now. Click the Second item in the toolbar to stop detection. If all seems ok, try waving your hand infront of the camera or causing a change in image somehow. If there is no bark continue to step 3 but make Crime Catcher more sensitive instead of less.
Step 3 - Changing Motion Detection Sensitivity
Click the fourth item in the toolbar (or click the menu Detection and then Options). You should see something like the screen below:
Lets go into Camera1 and into Sensitivity. Try shifting the 2 sliders on the right by about a quarter. Click on OK to save your changes and now retry Step 2. If you are still getting a continuous dog bark, ensure your camera is pointing at something static. Be careful of reflections and subtle light changes caused by your own shadow. Try going back into the options and making it less sensitive.
Step 4 - Browsing Saved Images
Click the third icon on the toolbar or got the menu File and Create Report. You should see something like the example below listing the dates and hours that images were captured. Click on the + sign to the left of the dates and hours to see the images below. Click on the images to see them displayed on the right.
